Kim Chiu gets Gerald Anderson’s mother’s approval

At the birthday party organized by StarStudio Magazine for Gerald Anderson last February 27 at the Fiamma Bar in Makati, ABS-CBN.com interviewed Gerald’s mom Evangeline Opsima about the changes she had seen from Gerald since he became one of the hottest teen idols of today. “Nakita ko sa anak ko na nag-mature siya. Hindi na siya ‘yung dati na parang baby. Noong 15-years old ‘yan katabi ko pa matulog pero ngayon hiwalay na siya. Bigla din siyang naging responsible sa buhay niya. Pero marami ding nawala simula noong maging artista si Gerald. Dati madalas niyang sabihin ‘Ma, can you cook me this?’ ‘Ma, can you buy me that?’ Ngayon hindi ko na naririnig sa kanya ‘yun. Ang sinasabi na lang niya, ‘Ma, can you come here to Manila and stay with me?’”After becoming a finalist in the Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition in 2006, Gerald moved from his hometown in General Santos City to Quezon City to focus on his work. He is now close into having his dream house finally built, and Mommy Evangeline is very happy to see his son achieve so much at a young age. “Nakita ko na ‘yung bahay and in fact we’re supposed to have the house blessing this March 7 kasabay ng birthday niya kaya lang hindi pa tapos ‘yung construction. Baka sa March 9 or 21 na lang sabay na ng birthday celebration. Smart na bata ‘yan. Hindi ko inakalang in three years niya sa showbiz magkakaroon na siya ng sarili niyang bahay. Responsible na talaga siya. Hindi lang siya parang 20 years [old], tingin para na siyang 30 years old.”Mommy Evangeline was also asked on how she finds Gerald’s ka-love team Kim Chiu, and she had nothing but good words for the young actress. “I love Kim. Boto naman ako sa kanya. Hindi ko rin naman mahahadlangan si Gerald sa kung sino ang magustuhan niya. Kim is a good person. Ang nakita ko sa batang ‘yan noon pa is maalalahanin siya at responsible din. Alam naman natin na lumaki siya na malayo sa ina pero sa nakikita ko she can handle herself very well. Wala siyang arte sa katawan.”But Mommy Evangeline doesn’t think that Gerald and Kim are already having a serious relationship other than their going strong on-screen partnership. “Dumating ako sa 18th birthday ni Kim last year at tinanong ko siya kung sila na ba talaga ni Gerald ang magkakatuluyan. Hindi pa naman talaga sila dahil mga bata pa sila. Pero in the future kung sila talaga, bilang ina ni Gerald I wish them well. Ang wish ko para sa love team nila is to ‘keep it going.’ ‘Yun ang lagi kong dasal. But as a mother, I have to watch over them kasi mga bata pa rin sila.”Now that Gerald is about to turn 20, Mommy Evangeline has only one piece of advice for her son when it comes to love. “Ang lagi ko lang advice sa kanya, kung sino man ang dumating sa buhay niya, just be sure kung siya na talaga ang babae na gusto mong makasama habang buhay. Pag-isipan niyang mabuti.”

Kim Chiu reveals plans of having her own house this year

With Gerald Anderson’s new house underway, onscreen partner Kim Chiu revealed on Showbiz News Ngayon yesterday that she is already planning to build her own home within this year.“Nagpa-plan na ako. American (style with) two storeys. Kasi kay Gerald walang roof, ‘yung sa akin may roof para babaeng-babae,” she shared. Kim said that after she visited Gerald twice at his new home, she resolved that she’d have one of her own soon. “Oo nainggit nga ako sa kanya (Gerald). Kaya sabi ko, ‘Bilisan na natin ganyan-ganyan.’ Ayun, nainggit ako may bahay na siya para ako din magkabahay na,” Kim confessed. The chinita actress said that she is hiring the services of a different architect from that of Gerald’s for her two-storey dream house.Meanwhile, Kim denied rumors claiming that she did not attend Gerald’s surprise birthday party on purpose. It just so happened that she was shooting a commercial at that time. “Kasi biglaan ang surprise birthday party para sa kanya,” explained Kim. “Naka-schedule ako para sa commercial (shoot).” She related that when she finished shooting at two in the morning, she asked Gerald if she could still catch up, but was told that their friends have already gone home. Kim said that she has not given her leading man her gift yet since his real birthday won’t be until this Saturday (March 7). She said that she has not yet bought her present but she’s making sure that Gerald would like it.

Jake and Gerald supported Rotaract Manila’s SALUDO SA SUNDALO AT KAPAMILYA project

The lead actors of ABS-CBN's top-rating TV series Tayong Dalawa, Jake Cuenca and Gerald Anderson, gave a part of their total winnings in Kapamilya Deal or No Deal to the Cancer patients of the AFP Medical Center. Gerald and Jake donated 400,000 pesos for the project spearheaded by the Rotaract Club of Manila, dubbed as Saludo sa Sundalo at Kapamilya. Saludo sa Sundalo at Kapamilya is a continuation of Rotaract Manila's program for cancer patients of the AFP Medical Center. The project supports selected soldiers and children of soldiers who are undergoing treatment for cancer. “Masarap ang pakiramdam pag nakakatulong. Sure kami (ni Jake) na malaki rin ang maitutulong ng halagang ito sa mga cancer patients,” Gerald expressed. ”Kahit papano ay na-feel narin namin kung papaano maging sundalo. Mahirap talaga, papaano pa kaya yung mga sundalong dumaranas ng cancer. Kaya naman, nararapat lang silang tulungan,” Jake shared. Exclusive: Jake Cuenca talks about being happy with Melissa Ricks

They first met on the set of Pedro Penduko when she was fairly still a showbiz newbie after joining Star Circle Quest and he had transferred from another network. Now, they regularly meet as hosts of ASAP ’09 and Jake Cuenca admits he and Melissa Ricks are getting closer than ever. “We weren’t very close back then (Pedro Penduko days) and we’re closer now so I’m really happy about that,” he says.Although they have yet to go out together, Jake has already made sweet gestures by sending food that he personally cooked to Mel’s family’s condo in Greenhills and even sent her a dozen roses during Valentine’s Day. “Siyempre it’s a sign of our friendship and siyempre I’m very happy with our friendship. About the flowers, siyempre it was Valentines day and everyone deserves to be happy on that day, especially a person like Melissa. I won’t deny it, she’s very beautiful and she’s very intelligent. She’s really fun to be with. I just wanted to make her happy that day,” the Tayong Dalawa actor explains.But even though something more than friendship seems to be blossoming between the two, Jake says there will be no formal courtship anytime soon. “We’re both very focused on our careers and I’m not rushing at all. Siyempre this time around, after the past relationships I’ve been in, you know one thing I’ve learned is not to rush things anymore. So I don’t want to rush it all. I’m taking my time, taking it slower and that’s the way I want to do it right now. Right now, I’m good with friendship. Kung liligawan ko siya, it has to be on my own terms, in my own time, and at the same time, siyempre the first thing on my mind is kung gagawin ko yan, siyempre yung sasabihin ng parents niya. I’m 21 years old, I’d like to be more mature about things. Ayoko magmadali. I’m grasping the fact that everything is falling into place,” he shares.The good news is that Mel’s parents seem to be okay with her friendship with the Coverboys member. “I just met her parents once or twice. I haven’t really had a full conversation with them. So right now talaga, it’s more of just friendship,” he adds.A visibly happy Jake also shares what he likes most about the pretty mestiza. “I like her realism, her being very positive. Nakaka-in love. Sobrang nakakagaan siya talaga. ‘Pag nakikita ko siyang nakangiti, siyempre masaya na rin ako and ang sarap ng feeling to see her smile.”

Gerald Anderson celebrates his 20th birthday with Star Cinema

For the first time since he joined showbiz, Gerald Anderson celebrated his birthday with his family and closest friends when the team behind Star Studio Magazine organized a surprise party for him last Thursday night at the Fiamma bar in MakatiCity. Though both his father and Kim Chiu weren’t able to make it due to certain commitments, he managed to enjoy his night away from work.“These past three years, kapag birthday ko either nasa bahay lang ako or nasa taping. Hindi rin talaga ako mahilig sa parties kaya nagulat ako nung pinagawa ni Sir Biboy (Arboleda, Editor-in-chief of Star Studio Magazine) ito para sa akin, pero natutuwa ako at the same time. Sana there would be more parties to come,” he said in an interview with ABS-CBN.com during the event.Though he is only turning 20 years old on March 7, the dashing young actor knows that he is fortunate to have accomplished a lot in such a short time. “I really feel blessed dahil madami ang nagbago sa buhay ko ever since I started in the business. Sa lahat ng achievements ko, siyempre sa mga soaps na ginawa ko from Sana Maulit Muli to My Girl and then itong Tayong Dalawa. Tapos yung pagkakaroon ko ng sariling bahay, malaking achievement talaga yun para sa akin.” Nevertheless, he continues to hope for more projects to come in the future. “Sana humaba yung career ko dito sa showbiz. Alam ko’ng marami pa ako’ng dapat matutunan so I wish gumaling ako sa lahat ng aspects bilang isang artista,” he exclaimed.There’s no denying the fact that being paired with other leading ladies is part and parcel of an actor’s individual growth but Gerald is focused on making the best out of his successful team-up with Kim for now. “Alam naman natin na mangyayari yun. Hindi natin maiiwasan. Pero sobrang nag-eenjoy ako ngayon sa love team namin ni Kim at sa dami ng mga magagandang nangyari sa amin. So I am taking things step by step muna. Tsaka na lang yun,” he stressed. But he is also looking forward to working with other prime actresses such as Angel Locsin, Anne Curtis, Bea Alonzo, and Sarah Geronimo in the future. “It would be good to work with them. Nakikita ko sila sa ASAP eh [and] they’re all beautiful. Pero kapag nasa right timing na.”Except for the things he mentioned above, Gerald claimed that he is no longer asking for material gifts either from his parents or even from Kim whom he had given a pink car during her 18th birthday last year. “Takot na yung mom and dad ko na magbigay ng gifts sa akin kasi sabi lahat naman mayroon na ako (laughs). And it's my turn to shower them with gifts ‘di ba? Sa mom ko, ‘yung bahay niya. Yung house naming sa Gen San (General Santos) pina-renovate talaga, mas malaki na siya. Sa dad ko I gave him a car, so ‘yun. Kay Kim naman, sinabi ko na sa kanya huwag na siyang gumastos. ‘Kahit napakadami mo’ng commercials ngayon, basta magkasama tayo okay na sa akin yun’,” he revealed.Together with his Tayong Dalawa co-star Jake Cuenca, Gerald is set to turn over a portion of their 2 million-peso cash prize from Kapamilya Deal or No Deal to the Armed Forces of the Philippines today at CampCapinpin, Tanay, Rizal. This is also a great way for him to mark his 20th birthday. “Pinili naming beneficiary yung mga cancer patients na anak ng mga soldiers dito sa atin. Gusto talaga namin ni Jake makatulong sa kanila dahil talagang nakita namin yung mga pinagdadaanan nila nung nagtraining kami sa PMA at kapag nagte-taping kami sa kampo nila,” he stated.
